The Guarda Nacional Republicana detains on average around 280 drivers per week in Portugal for driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit considered a crime. This information comes in the context of the Portuguese authorities' enforcement operations to combat driving under the influence of alcohol.

Regarding the age group most represented in these detentions, drivers aged between 51 and 64 account for a total of 2,450 detentions. This age group even surpasses drivers aged between 41 and 50, who represent the second group with the highest number of detentions for this infraction.

The data reveal that the phenomenon of driving under the influence of alcohol affects various age groups across the board, although there is a significant prevalence among middle-aged and senior drivers. The GNR regularly maintains these enforcement operations on Portuguese roads as a measure to prevent and combat this dangerous conduct.
