"It is extremely concerning" to insist on outsourcing the maintenance of Carris fleet, union warns

Correio da Manhã3 September 2026 at 08:09

The Lisbon Metro Workers' Union warned that it is "extremely concerning" to insist on outsourcing the maintenance of Carris's fleet. This position comes following an accident related to elevator maintenance.

Manuel Leal, on the day of the accident, stated that Carris workers had made "successive complaints" regarding the need for maintenance of elevators, including the Gloria elevator.

The union thus expressed its concern about the possibility of fleet maintenance being assigned to external companies, suggesting that this decision may put at risk the safety of the equipment and users.

GNR alerts to new type of scam arriving by mail

The Republican National Guard issued an alert about a new fraud scheme arriving by traditional mail, where criminals send letters containing a bank card in the victim's name with a malicious QR code to steal money and personal data. The trick is based on urgency, informing that it is necessary to activate the card immediately to avoid blocking the bank account. This type of scam is difficult to detect because it uses physical mail, associated with greater legitimacy, and the scammers also accumulate personal data collected on cloned websites for identity falsification schemes. The GNR recommends contacting the bank directly through official channels in case of doubt.
