Actor Leonardo DiCaprio returned to Brazil after 22 years for a discreet agenda dedicated to environmental conservation, visiting projects and communities in the Amazon, Cerrado, and Pantanal supported by his NGO, Re:wild. The six-day trip began last week and ended yesterday.

During the visit, DiCaprio met with Kayapó chief Raoni Metuktire, an icon of indigenous and environmental struggle in Brazil. The encounter highlighted the connection between the protection of indigenous territories and environmental preservation.

Brazil is one of the priority countries for a newly launched program by Re:wild in partnership with the foundation of the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. The program plans to allocate approximately R$ 1 billion to protect the 100 most endangered species in the world, five of which are found exclusively in Brazil.

At the end of the trip, DiCaprio met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and ministers to discuss ecosystem protection, biodiversity, and indigenous territories.

Civic movement removes 415 kilos of waste from Areeira Beach

A civic movement called One Piece After Another promoted a cleanup action at Areeira Beach, in Nazaré, during which 34 volunteers collected 415 kilos of waste from the sand in about three hours. The activity, carried out under the "24 às Cegas" program of the Scouts of the Leiria-Fátiva region, brought together pathfinders and scout leaders from various regions of the country. Among the materials collected were ropes, clay pots, styrofoam, nets, plastic packaging, glass, cotton buds, bottle caps, toothbrushes, and light bulbs. Created in 2019, the movement has been developing regular interventions on beaches and natural spaces between Pedrógão and Nazaré, committed to environmental awareness in schools and associations, and already counts thousands of volunteers and dozens of tons of garbage collected since its foundation.
