Teatro Oficina presents an adaptation of the short story "The Egg and the Chicken" by Clarice Lispector, which premieres this Friday at Teatro Municipal Ziembinski in Rio de Janeiro. The original text narrates a woman who observes an egg on the kitchen table and, some time later, decides to break it, inserting between these seemingly mundane scenes a great reflection on life.
The play is directed by Joana Medeiros and performed by Ana Hartmann in a solo format. Joana began working on the text in performance in 2017 and decided to present it in full on stage. Clarice Lispector herself once declared that the short story was a mystery even to her.
Joana Medina explains that upon discovering the story, she also perceived this mystery, as it deals with matter, time, rhythm, with something that is seen but cannot be said, or something that is said but has not yet been felt.
