Portugal faces another ten days of intense heat and tropical nights, according to weather forecasts. Temperatures are expected to reach extremely high values in several regions of the country during this period.
Évora and Beja are the most affected regions, with a forecast of 42 degrees for this Thursday. Santarém and Setúbal are expected to record 41 degrees, while Lisbon will reach 40 degrees.
The heat is not limited to daytime hours. Portalegre, in the interior of the Alentejo, should have a minimum temperature of 26 degrees during the night, characterizing the so-called tropical nights, which are particularly difficult for the most vulnerable population.
Health authorities have been warning about the risks associated with these extreme temperatures, recommending special care with the elderly, children, and people with chronic illnesses.
