Temperatures will rise sharply this Thursday, September 3, in mainland Portugal, in a day that should be the hottest of the week. In some inland regions, thermometers could reach or even exceed 40 degrees.
According to forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the temperature rise will be particularly significant in the inland north and centre, as well as in the Tagus valley and the interior of the Alentejo. These regions are the most directly affected by the heat wave.
Health authorities warn of the risks associated with these high temperatures, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and people with chronic diseases. Frequent hydration is recommended, as well as avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours.
This episode of intense heat occurs in the context of a warm air mass coming from North Africa, which has been affecting the Iberian Peninsula in recent days. IPMA remains vigilant about the evolution of the meteorological situation.
