PGR defends archiving complaint by Vorcaro about threats in prison

cbn3 September 2026 at 00:59

The Office of the Attorney General requested the archiving of the complaints presented by former banker Daniel Vorcaro in testimony given to the office of Minister André Mendonça, of the Supreme Court. The hearing took place last week, without the presence of the Federal Police, after a request from the defense, which alleged that Vorcaro was suffering serious intimidation. The content was recorded on video and remains under seal.

According to Estadão, the banker would have said that he created "relationships and connections with relevant people" to protect himself from retaliation in the financial market. Also according to the newspaper, the banker stated that the threats began during the plane transfer to Brasília, when he was arrested in March.

Vorcaro would have reported that the agents placed him in a box "like an animal" and made threats that they would open the airplane door to throw him out, saying that no one would doubt that he himself had done it. The former banker also questioned about the collaboration agreement proposals that were not accepted.

Ceuta: border on high alert

Ceuta, the Spanish enclave on the North African coast, remains on alert following the invasion of June 30, 2026, an episode that represents the culmination of decades of tension on the Spanish-Moroccan border. The city, located at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar and under Spanish sovereignty since the 17th century, constitutes, together with Melilla, the only land border of the European Union in Africa, which gives it a geopolitical weight greater than its territorial size, transforming any threat to its integrity into a matter of European relevance. For Spain, Ceuta is a fully integrated territory within its sovereignty, while Rabat has been increasing pressure on these Spanish cities, taking advantage of their status as the only land entry point of the EU on the African continent to exert diplomatic pressure. The recent invasion highlighted the vulnerability of this border and reignited the debate on the need to strengthen European security on its outer edges.
