A study conducted by the EDULOG foundation concluded that the choice of higher education degree has more impact on graduates' professional future than the institution where they obtained their degree. This conclusion is based on the analysis of significant differences between fields of study across various labour indicators.
The study identified considerable disparities between different fields of study regarding unemployment, wages earned, contract stability, and the match between academic training and employment held. These data suggest that the field of study influences the professional conditions of graduates in a determinant way.
The EDULOG research, a foundation dedicated to the study of higher education in Portugal, thus allows us to understand that factors such as the chosen scientific area weigh more heavily on professional trajectories than the prestige or perceived quality of the educational institution.
