The Luz/Expomor 2026 Fair was inaugurated on September 2nd in Montemor-o-Novo, bringing together over 300 exhibitors in a diverse program that runs for six days and places agriculture, livestock and economic activity at the center of attention.

Among the highlights of this edition is the return of folklore and an exhibition dedicated to the 50 years of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, which aims to recall the importance of this document in the construction of Portuguese democracy after April 25th. This year's edition represents a municipal investment that should amount to approximately 800 thousand euros.

EXPOMOR maintains its strong livestock component, with the presence of several reference bovine breeds, including Charolais, Limousine, Saler and Aberdeen Angus, totaling around a thousand animals. The event asserts itself as one of the main events in the municipality, combining tradition and innovation.

Among the novelties of the 2026 edition are the Montemor Meat Festival, scheduled for September 5th, and the Day of Women Farmers, on September 7th, initiatives that aim to promote local gastronomy and recognize the contribution of women in the agricultural and livestock sector.

"China uses the Arctic because it needs routes that the United States cannot close"

China inaugurated a trade route to Europe via the Arctic, called the "polar silk route," in a strategy to guarantee trade routes that the United States cannot control or block. In an interview with DN, Spanish economist Alicia Garcia Herrero, chief economist for Asia-Pacific at Natixis and researcher at think tank Bruegel, explained that Beijing is looking for alternative routes to traditional maritime corridors, reducing dependence on passages that could be threatened by Washington. The specialist also warned about the geopolitical implications of this Chinese expansion in the Arctic.
