Campus da Idade Maior in Oliveira do Bairro

NotíciasdeAveiro.pt3 September 2026 at 00:05

The Municipality of Oliveira do Bairro initiated the activities of the Campus da Idade Maior (CIM), a project aimed at all people aged 60 or over, which seeks to promote social interaction, learning, social participation and well-being among the senior population of the municipality. The first activities took place in the parish of Palhaça, at the old Primary School of the town, with the presence of councilors Luís Rabaça and Susana Martins.

The month of September will be dedicated to presenting the project and consulting with participants, seeking to understand their interests, expectations and needs. Various activities are planned, including digital literacy sessions, cognitive stimulation activities, health promotion initiatives, physical exercise, dance and artistic and creative expression workshops, such as painting, music and handicrafts.

With a decentralized and close-to-citizens approach, the CIM will travel through the four parishes of the municipality — Oiã, Palhaça, Oliveira do Bairro and União das Freguesias de Bustos, Troviscal e Mamarrosa — using the existing community facilities in each locality. The project is dynamic and evolving, with the programming being built and adjusted based on the contributions of participants.

In 2025, the Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Centro (CCDR Centro) awarded the municipality, for the second time, the renowned "Território da Longevidade" (Longevity Territory) distinction, in recognition of municipal policies directed at the senior population. The Campus da Idade Maior is part of the set of initiatives developed by the municipality within the scope of the Older Age department, focused on policies promoting active aging, social inclusion and improving the quality of life of the senior population.
