The National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) expressed support for the objective of criminalizing digital identity theft, but expressed reservations about the text proposed by the Chega party that amends the Cybercrime Law.
The Bar Association also issued an opinion on the same matter, sharing concerns similar to those of the CNPD regarding the formulation of the bill.
Both bodies recognize the need to more effectively combat identity theft in the digital context, but question the way in which the legislation was drafted.
The Chega bill proposes amendments to the Cybercrime Law that aim to classify the misappropriation of digital identity as a crime, a matter that has gained relevance with the increase in computer crimes.
