Hugo Soares, parliamentary leader of the PSD, today considered ridiculous the motion of censure presented by Chega against the Government. In an interview to SIC-Notícias, Soares stated that André Ventura's party aims to "bring down the Government and provoke", describing the motion as an initiative without real political substance.
Chega's motion comes following the controversies involving the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves. The populist party decided to use this situation to present the motion of censure against the executive.
Asked whether the President of the Republic sends "messages through friends" to the Government, Hugo Soares said he doesn't believe in this theory. This issue arises in the context of tensions between the executive and the Belém Palace.
At the end of the interview, Hugo Soares also revealed he voted for António José Seguro in the presidential elections, when that candidate was running against the current President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
