The president of the Azores Agricultural Federation (FAA), Jorge Rita, called upon the Azorean government, the Portuguese Republic government, and the European Union to adopt measures that counteract the depopulation trend of Flores and Corvo and promote the rejuvenation of agriculture on these two islands of the Western group of the Azores.
The warning came after an institutional visit by Jorge Rita to the two westernmost islands of the Azores archipelago. During the visit, the president of the FAA had the opportunity to observe firsthand the agricultural and demographic reality of these islands.
Jorge Rita warned of the urgent need for measures that can halt depopulation and attract young population back to agricultural activity in Flores and Corvo, islands that face significant demographic challenges.
