PSD recently defended the need to promote organized grazing as an instrument for territory protection. The social democrats consider that this practice can significantly contribute to sustainable management of rural spaces.
The flocks were highlighted by the party as important elements for land cleaning, playing a natural role in forest maintenance and wildfire prevention. This ecological function was presented as an argument in favor of pastoralism.
PSD expressed its position that it is possible to reconcile pastoral activity with animal welfare and nature conservation. The party understands that these three aspects are not necessarily contradictory and can coexist in a balanced way.
This defense of organized grazing arises in the context of debates about land management and wildfire prevention policies in Portugal.
