According to the Delegación del Gobierno, 50,000 people attended, an even higher number according to the organizers' estimates. This demonstration is part of a series of concentrations that took place in many municipalities across Spain on the same day.
In Madrid, Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida read a statement in defense of Ceuta at the City Hall, on the autonomous city's day. The event was promoted by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), led by the PP municipality María José García-Pelayo, mayoress of Jerez de la Frontera.
Cibeles Square, a usual setting for concentrations for sporting successes such as the last World Cup won by the Spanish national team in July, was filled with tens of thousands of people. The reading of the statement was constantly interrupted by shouts of support, ending with the anthems of Ceuta and Spain.
