The Constitution and Justice Committee of the Senate approved the bill that ends the 6x1 work schedule, in which the worker works six consecutive days and only has one day off. The project had previously been approved by the Chamber of Deputies and now advances to the voting phase in the Senate.
The proposal will go to the Senate floor for consideration in two voting rounds, in accordance with the Brazilian legislative process for bills. If approved by the Senate, it will go to presidential sanction.
The bill text modifies the Consolidation of Labor Laws to establish a maximum weekly workload of 44 hours, allowing greater flexibility in the distribution of work and rest days.
The matter is cited as one of the main banners of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's re-election campaign, who has highlighted the proposal as part of his agenda for valuing workers' rights.
