The 26th Tavira Open-Air Cinema Showcase took place in two periods, between July 16 and 26 and between August 6 and 16, at the Cloisters of the Convento do Carmo, bringing together around 3,500 people across 22 sessions. Organized by the Cineclube de Tavira, this year's edition had the theme "music, love and desire for transformation" and featured 22 feature films from different countries, as well as a short film by Tavira director Inês Nunes. The month of July saw the highest attendance, with the opening film "One to One: John & Yoko" selling out and screenings such as "A Poet," "Secret Agent," "Arco," "Dj Ahmet" and "It Was Just an Accident" each gathering around 200 spectators per night.
Among the programming highlights was the screening of "The Solitude of Lizards," a short film by Inês Nunes featuring non-professional actors from the Algarve. The session allowed the audience to speak with the director and meet the film's protagonists. In addition to Inês Nunes, the showcase welcomed Catarina Alves Costa, who presented the documentary "Orlando Pantera," and Pedro Pinho, present at the closing session with "The Laugh and the Knife." The meeting with Pedro Pinho continued until 03:00 on the final night.
The documentary "Orlando Pantera," about the life and work of the Cape Verdean musician and composer, was the audience's favorite, scoring 9.40 points on a scale of one to ten in the vote held. The second highest rating was given to "Little Amélie," an animated feature film based on the autobiographical book by Amélie Nothomb.
Programmer Candela Varas expressed satisfaction with the results, also highlighting the volunteers' work and the impact that participating in the Showcase has had on young people who, after volunteering, decided to study cinema. The 2026 edition also brought new features at the Showcase Bar, with the menu curated by chef Hélène Yassenesky. The organization received support from the Tavira Municipal Council, the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual, Europa Cinemas, the Culture Unit of the Coordination Commission for Regional Development of the Algarve, and local businesses.
