Lisbon inaugurated a memorial in honor of the victims of the Ascensor da Glória accident. The space was created to function as a place of tribute and reflection for the memory of the people affected by this tragedy.
The memorial includes a centennial olive tree, which symbolizes tradition and resistance, and limestone blocks where the names of the victims are engraved. The integrated lighting was designed to create an atmosphere of reflection and respect in the space.
The Ascensor da Glória is one of Lisbon's historic elevators, being one of the most emblematic public transportation means in the city, connecting the Baixa Pombalina to the Bairro Alto. This accident profoundly marked the city and the local community.
