MEPs approved the candidates presented to lead two important European financial supervisory authorities. In the competent parliamentary committee, Carlo Comporti received endorsement to take the leadership of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the body responsible for supervising European financial markets.
Thomas Gstädtner was also approved by MEPs for the position of Executive Director of the European Banking Authority (EBA), the entity that supervises the banking sector in the European Union.
Both names now proceed to final approval in the European Parliament, in a process that confirms the appointment of these two officials as heads of the European supervisory authorities.
