Adriano Álvaro Melo, known as Alvinho, a 10-year-old boy with high abilities, was approached by Julio Campos Filho, president of Mensa Brasil, to participate in a national meeting of gifted children and adolescents in Bahia. The event will have three days of intellectual, cultural, and integration activities, taking place from Saturday to Monday, in Salvador and Lauro de Freitas. The entity is also studying what kind of support it can offer the boy.
Alvinho developed the game "Super Alvinho" at age 7, after participating in an online programming course from Harvard University, in the United States. The boy also excelled at chess and in a robotics class at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
Alvinho's mother, Priscila de Melo, was contacted by the president of Mensa Brasil to facilitate her son's trip to the event in Bahia. The family lives in a shelter in Rio de Janeiro, which represents an additional obstacle for the boy's future, who was rising from the favela to the world.
