Agricultural Federation of the Azores Calls for Measures to Rejuvenate the Sector in Flores and Corvo

Açoriano Oriental2 September 2026 at 17:12

The president of the Agricultural Federation of the Azores (FAA) called on the Azorean, Portuguese Republic, and European Union governments to adopt measures that counteract the depopulation trend in Flores and Corvo and promote the rejuvenation of agriculture on these two islands of the archipelago.

Flores and Corvo are the smallest and most isolated islands of the Azores, facing growing problems of territorial abandonment and loss of young population, which threatens the continuity of agricultural activity in the region.

The federation believes that without concrete interventions from the three levels of governance, the agricultural sector on these islands risks becoming extinct, further exacerbating the existing demographic and economic problems in local communities.
