Alphabet, the parent company of Google, will not have to sell its advertising trading platform (AdX), US Federal Judge Leonie Brinkema decided this Wednesday. Instead of a breakup, the tech giant will have to make its advertising technology tools compatible with those operated by competing companies. The decision frees Google from a second attempt by the American government to force the sale of some part of the company.
The federal judge issued her decision under seal, accompanied by a brief order rejecting the US Department of Justice's request to force Google to sell its advertising trading platform. The determination pointed to changes in how Google conducts its business, but without describing what those changes would be. The case is part of an antitrust lawsuit brought by the United States government against the technology company.
