The requalification projects for Praça do Município and Jardim do Toural were publicly presented at a session that left the mayor, Guilherme Pires, particularly satisfied. According to the mayor, there was almost unanimity in the room, with people showing appreciation and participating during the presentation. Guilherme Pires considered that these interventions represent an opportunity to carry out works, modernize, and create a tourist attraction for the municipality.
In Praça do Município, the project includes the replacement of the pavement, the demolition of the current water feature, and the creation of new transition levels. The surrounding area will also be reorganized, with new routes, permanence and contemplation areas, green spaces, rest areas, and a more integrated connection to existing heritage elements, such as Porta Carral, the Guerreiro Calaico, the granary, and the sculpture alluding to the honeycomb, an element present in both interventions.
In Jardim do Toural, the project provides for new routes and improved accessibility, maintaining the existing vegetation and introducing new native species. The intervention seeks to make the space more attractive and more functional, without compromising the centenary oaks, whose preservation was guaranteed by the mayor to the residents of Boticas present at the session.
