The Chamber of Deputies approved on Wednesday morning (2) the name of Rodrigo Pacheco for a seat on the Court of Accounts (TCU). The deputies approved the name of the former Senate president without resistance and in an accelerated process, one day after the senators had given their approval to Pacheco's name with a majority of votes.
Pacheco's selection came through an orchestration by Senate President Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), his close ally, and occurs after the senator was passed over by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for a seat on the Supreme Court (STF). Pacheco will take the place of Minister Bruno Dantas, who officially announced his early departure from the court on Monday.
In a quick arrangement, Alcolumbre formalized the appointment of his ally on Monday night itself so that the matter could advance this week, the last with voting sessions before the elections. The vote was not preceded by a hearing.
The appointment also had the endorsement of the MDB, which was the party that suggested Dantas for the vacancy now to be filled by Pacheco.
