The Workers' Committee of the Lusíadas News Agency sent a request to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Aguiar-Branco, to take a stance against what it classifies as a "serious threat" from deputy Pedro Frazão. The Committee demands a formal response to the parliamentarian's statements.
The request comes following a video published by Pedro Frazão himself on social media. In the video, the deputy and vice-president of the National Directorate of the Chega party questioned the integrity of Lusíadas journalists in producing news articles, challenging the impartiality and professionalism of the news agency.
In the same video, Pedro Frazão also admitted the possibility of shutting down the news agency, representing a direct threat to the existence of Lusíadas. This position by the Chega parliamentarian generated strong concern among the agency's workers.
The Workers' Committee considers that Pedro Frazão's statements constitute an attempt to intimidate and discredit the journalistic work of the agency, calling on political and institutional figures to speak out against this type of attack on press freedom and the work of media professionals.
