"Grave threat from deputy" from Chega. CT of Lusíadas requests Aguiar Branco's intervention

RTP Notícias2 September 2026 at 16:00

The Workers' Committee of the Lus(a) News Agency accused Chega deputy Pedro Frazão of having made a "serious threat" against the agency's journalists while serving as an "elected deputy." The threat was reportedly directed at the professionals covering the assembly's political activity. The Workers' Committee considered that the parliamentarian's words constitute an attack on press freedom and the right to information. The workers' representative body requested the intervention of Aguiar Branco, President of the Assembly of the Republic, to protect journalists from threats coming from deputies. This is not the first time tensions have emerged between the Chega party and media professionals, in a context of increasing political tension in Portugal.
