At the beaches that still tried to operate, demand was almost non-existent, with few bathers taking advantage of the lake's waters. The drought affected large areas of the lake.
At the end of summer, large stretches of Lake Velence's bed were completely dry, further worsening the situation. This situation represents a severe blow to the local economy, which depends heavily on tourism during the bathing season.
