Campeão das Províncias2 September 2026 at 14:37

The 26th Grande Prémio Alves Barbosa takes place between September 11 and 13, with passages through Montemor-o-Velho, Águeda and Coimbra. The event is intended for the cadet category, young people aged 13, 14 and 15, and is promoted by the Municipality of Montemor-o-Velho in collaboration with the Portuguese Cycling Federation and the Beira Litoral Cycling Association.

The competition begins on September 11 with a team time trial prologue between Montemor-o-Velho and Ereira, departing at 5:00 PM. On September 12, the second stage takes place between Montemor-o-Velho and Águeda, departing at 3:06 PM with an expected arrival at 5:05 PM near Escola Adolfo Portela. The Municipality of Águeda has joined the event for the fifth consecutive year.

The final stage takes place on September 13, departing from the Porta Férrea of the University of Coimbra at 10:00 AM with an expected arrival in Montemor-o-Velho at 12:15 PM. Coimbra hosts the departure of this stage for the third consecutive year, ending with a third-category mountain prize on the climb to Montemor-o-Velho Castle.

The event pays tribute to Alves Barbosa, a native of Montemor-o-Velho and one of the main figures of Portuguese cycling in the 1950s. In 1951, at age 19, he became the youngest winner of the Volta a Portugal, a competition he won three times. In 1956, he achieved 10th place in the overall classification of the Tour de France.
