10 million euros to restore productive potential after fire

A Voz de Trás-os-Montes2 September 2026 at 14:49

The Portuguese Government will make 10 million euros available to restore agricultural productive potential after the rural fires that occurred during the summer of 2026. According to the statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Portugal recorded numerous rural fires with significant impact on agricultural activity during that period.

The executive officially recognized two fire periods as particularly severe, due to their magnitude and severity, which requires a more urgent response. Among the most affected municipalities is Valpaços, which will be one of the main beneficiaries of the support.

The order, signed by Minister José Manuel Fernandes, officially recognizes the fires as a natural disaster and determines the granting of support to agricultural holdings located in the identified parishes. The objective is to restore the production conditions of the affected holdings and ensure that farmers can resume their normal activity as soon as possible.

Valuable necklace disappears from Vienna museum

Two men bought tickets for the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna (MAK) last Thursday, entered during opening hours, went to the Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry exhibition, broke a display case with a hammer, stole a platinum necklace with 673 diamonds valued at millions of dollars, and fled without injuring anyone. The piece, created for the Egyptian royal family and worn by Queen Nazli in 1939 at her daughter's wedding, had been sold for 4.3 million dollars at Sotheby's in 2015. The "Glanzstücke" exhibition, which featured around 500 objects, is closed indefinitely. The case recalls the theft of Benvenuto Cellini's "Saliera" in 2003, valued at 50 million euros, recovered three years later.
