The Portuguese Government has increased the public guarantee for permanent primary residence housing credit aimed at young people by 100 million euros. This measure aims to support access to home ownership by the young population, in a context of growing difficulties in the real estate market.
The guarantee specifically applies to young people up to 35 years of age, inclusive, who wish to purchase permanent primary residence. The contracts covered must be signed until the end of the year 2026.
The State acts as guarantor in this operation, guaranteeing up to 15% of the total transaction value. This percentage represents the portion of risk that the State assumes in case of default by the young borrower.
