Tax authorities carry out inspections at beaches and detect invoice problems at concessions

Alto Minho TV2 September 2026 at 14:17

The tax authorities are carrying out inspection and awareness actions at beaches in conjunction with the Maritime Police since July 29, in an operation called "Mar à Vista" that runs until September. The Tax and Customs Authority has deployed 63 tax inspectors in the field in coordination with 58 personnel from the Navy and Maritime Police, covering beaches in the districts of Aveiro, Beja, Coimbra, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal, and Viana do Castelo.

So far, several infractions have been identified related to the failure to issue invoices and the use of invoicing programs that do not comply with legal requirements. The Ministry of Finance did not specify how many actions were carried out or the exact number of infractions detected, stating only that there were "dozens."

The operation aims to promote voluntary compliance with tax obligations through direct contact with economic operators of beach concessions, raising awareness about the importance of issuing invoices and correctly complying with legal obligations. The objective is to contribute to strengthening tax fairness and fair competition conditions among economic agents.

The "Mar à Vista" action was initiated at a time of transition in AT's leadership, with Mário Campos assuming as director-general since August 1, succeeding Helena Borges after ten years as deputy director-general of the tax authority's information systems area.
