PASTÉIS DE CHAVES REACH 30 THOUSAND UNITS PER WEEK AT MERCADONA STORES

The Spanish chain Mercadona will open its first store in the district of Vila Real on September 10, strengthening its presence in Trás-os-Montes. Since 2019, the company has maintained commercial relations with D'Chaves, producer of Pastel de Chaves with Protected Geographical Indication, which supplies approximately 30 thousand units of the product weekly to Mercadona stores in Portugal.

Pastel de Chaves is commercialized in two formats: ultra-frozen, intended for domestic consumption, and ready-to-eat, available in the Pastry and Bakery area of the stores. Production maintains an artisanal character and follows the rules set out in the specification book for Pastel de Chaves PGI.

According to Helena Carvalho, general director of D'Chaves, the relationship with Mercadona has been marked by high standards of quality and food safety. Ana Azevedo, Mercadona's purchasing manager, states that the partnership is based on long-term collaboration and maintaining the defined criteria for the product, which is sold exclusively in the Portuguese market.
