ANVISA suspends production at Unilever factory due to irregularities, but does not prevent product sales

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published on Wednesday (the 2nd) the suspension of manufacturing of cleaning products at the Unilever facility located in Vinhedo, in the state of São Paulo. The action is preventive in nature and was adopted after an inspection conducted between August 24th and 28th. The decision does not include determination for batch recall, usage prohibition of the products, or suspension of commercialization of already produced items.

During the inspection, failures in good manufacturing practices were identified, which are mandatory requirements that companies must fulfill to ensure that production has adequate quality control systems. Among the inconsistencies found are failures in the controls performed during the manufacturing process and before the release of products to the market.

The inspection also identified deficiencies in monitoring the water used in the factory's production process, in addition to weaknesses in the investigation and correction of problems identified by the company itself. Unilever is responsible for the Vinhedo facility and the cleaning products manufactured there.

The evaluation of the available evidence to date did not indicate microbiological contamination or other problems in the products manufactured at the facility. For this reason, the regulatory agency chose to suspend only production, allowing products already commercialized to remain available to consumers.
