Student arrested after posing as judge in São Paulo had tried to run for office in 2010 and declared R$ 91 million fortune

Law student Selmo dos Santos Pereira, 53 years old, was arrested on Monday night (31st) in São Bernardo do Campo, in the ABC region of São Paulo, after presenting himself as a criminal judge during a Military Police stop. He was detained in flagrant delicto for falsifying identity and using false documents.

The student already had prior convictions for fraud and records of investigations and complaints related to financial scams and drugs. In 2010, at age 37, he attempted to run for federal deputy under the then-Democrats (DEM) party while in prison.

At that time, Selmo declared a fortune of R$ 91.65 million to the Electoral Court, the sixth largest among candidates for the position that year. O GLOBO found that the declared assets did not match what could be found in his records and field investigation. The only company located in his name was a transport company.
