Portuguese scientists achieved a historic milestone by managing to detect neutrinos with unprecedented precision. The XENON experiment, of which Portugal is part through an international collaboration, managed to observe signals from these elementary particles that continuously pass through the Earth almost without interacting with matter.
Neutrinos are extremely difficult particles to detect due to their ability to pass through matter without being intercepted. This pioneering detection represents a significant advance in observation techniques for these subatomic particles.
This achievement opens new possibilities for the study of neutrinos and dark matter, two of the greatest mysteries of modern physics. The XENON collaboration continues to work to deepen the understanding of these fundamental particles of the universe.
