Don't wait for the child to complain: these signs indicate that the school backpack is too heavy

With the return to school, specialists are warning parents about the signs that indicate the school backpack is too heavy or poorly fitted. Leaning the trunk forward, changes in walking patterns and straps that leave deep marks on the shoulders are warning signs identified by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The recommendation is that the backpack should not exceed 15% of the child's body weight. Experts advise placing heavier objects near the back, using two wide and padded straps, lifting the backpack by bending the knees and doing a weekly clean-up of the contents. It is also recommended that children remove the backpack before putting on the seatbelt in the car.
