The Tax and Customs Authority, in coordination with the Maritime Police, is carrying out the "Mar à Vista" inspection and awareness operation on the beaches of mainland Portugal, which began on July 29 and will continue through September. The objective of this initiative, according to the Ministry of Finance, is to promote voluntary compliance with tax obligations, raising awareness among economic operators about the importance of issuing invoices and correctly fulfilling the legal obligations associated with activity in beach concessions.
Dozens of inspection and awareness actions have already been carried out, involving 63 inspectors from the Tax Authority and 58 officers from the Maritime Police in the coastal areas of Aveiro, Beja, Coimbra, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Setúbal, and Viana do Castelo.
During these actions, various infractions were identified, namely failure to issue invoices and the use of invoicing programs that do not comply with legal requirements. One of the most recent operations, carried out by the Maritime Police of Sines together with the Tax Authority, resulted in seven beach support facilities and tour operators being cited in the municipality of Odemira for various irregularities, during coordinated actions in the municipalities of Odemira, Santiago do Cacém, and Grândola.
