Thomas Fahmy, an employee of the Republican Party in the office of Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis in New York, miraculously survived after being struck by lightning while walking to a medical appointment. The incident occurred during a storm last week, when Fahmy was leaving his home on Todt Avenue, near Windsor Road, in the Castleton Corners neighborhood.
Fahmy, who was carrying an umbrella at the moment of impact, was approximately 4.5 to 6 meters from his car when he was struck. The force of the lightning was so intense that he immediately fell to the ground. In an interview with WNBC TV network, the employee described the sensation as a very intense burning, followed by tingling, numbness, and severe pain in both feet.
Despite the violent impact, Fahmy remained conscious throughout the incident. He managed to stay on the ground in the residential neighborhood for a few moments before he was able to scream for help. The employee was then rescued and taken to receive medical attention. The case drew attention due to its rarity and the survivor's luck, since being directly struck by lightning is usually fatal.
