The Social Pastoral Centre of the Diocese of Viseu promotes, on October 9, a set of workshops dedicated to best practices in supporting elderly people. The initiative, called "Caring for Those Who Care: Best Practices in Supporting Elderly People", takes place throughout the day at the Major Seminary of Viseu and features free participation upon prior registration.
The training is aimed at employees of Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS), direct action assistants, elderly support technicians and other professionals linked to care provision. The program includes sessions on infection prevention, prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers, safety in mobilizing elderly people and burnout prevention and self-care for caregivers.
During the afternoon, three practical workshops are planned on hygiene and comfort of dependent persons, transfers and safe mobilization of elderly people and assessment of basic parameters through capillary glycemia testing. A round table for debate among participants is also planned.
According to the organization, the initiative aims to address the challenges associated with population aging, promoting knowledge updates and sharing best practices among professionals in the social and health areas. The training also seeks to value the role of professionals and caregivers, not only through strengthening their skills, but also through promoting their well-being and preventing situations of professional burnout.
