Marta Godinho warned that the NAO+ meteorological pattern will persist until at least September 11, with evident effects on Portugal's climate. The ECMWF sub-seasonal forecast indicates that the positive phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation will be the predominant pattern during most of this period.
The beginning of September will be marked by alternation between NAO+ and Atlantic Ridge regimes, with predominance of the former. After a few days of heat and an unstable Saturday, temperatures are expected to remain above average for the season, while precipitation will be below normal.
In Portugal, the effects of this atmospheric pattern will be particularly evident. Despite an episode of instability forecast for Saturday (September 5), the trend for the second week of the month points to dry and warm conditions.
