Almeirim under yellow warning with temperatures reaching 40 degrees

Jornal O Almeirinense2 September 2026 at 12:15

The municipality of Almeirim will be under yellow warning due to intense heat between 9:00 AM on Thursday, September 3rd, and 6:00 PM on Friday, September 4th. The warning was issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) due to the high maximum temperature values expected for the district.

For this Thursday, temperatures between 16 and 40 degrees are forecast, while on Friday the thermometers should range between 21 and 35 degrees, representing a significant drop compared to the previous day.

Given these forecasts, the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) recommends that the population increase water intake, even without feeling thirsty, avoiding alcoholic beverages, and try to remain in cool, well-ventilated or air-conditioned places for at least two to three hours per day.

DGS also advises avoiding direct exposure to the sun, especially between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, as well as engaging in intense physical exertion during the hottest hours. The use of light and heat-appropriate clothing is also recommended.
