Thomas Fahmy, a resident of Staten Island, New York, was struck by lightning last Thursday (8/27) while leaving his home for a routine dental visit. The moment of impact was captured by the security camera installed at his doorbell, showing the man being struck by the electrical discharge as soon as he stepped outside.
Fahmy told NBC that the sensations he felt throughout his body after being struck were completely new to him. He described symptoms such as tingling, numbness, pain, and a burning sensation throughout his body. The impact of the electrical discharge ran through his body immediately after the lightning struck him.
The man was rushed to the hospital and spent the night under observation. To the surprise of the medical team and the patient himself, the clinical exams did not detect any serious skin injuries from the electrical discharge. Thomas ended up returning home unharmed after the medical care.
