A cyclist was seriously injured after an accident on the ecopista linking Guimarães to Fafe. The alert was given by the victim himself shortly after 9 PM. Despite the injuries, the man managed to contact emergency services, but was disoriented and could not indicate his precise location.
Given the difficulty in locating the cyclist, the Fafe Volunteer Firefighters deployed a quad bike, an ambulance and four operatives. The teams travelled along the former railway line until they found the victim fallen near the deactivated Fareja halt.
According to the information gathered, the man reportedly lost control of the bicycle and was thrown approximately four metres. After receiving assistance at the scene, the cyclist was taken to the emergency department of the Local Health Unit of Alto Ave, in Guimarães.
The GNR was present at the scene and recorded the incident.
