The European Union suspends meat imports from Brazil for sanitary reasons

The European Commission will suspend from September 3 the imports of beef and poultry from Brazil. The measure responds to the non-compliance with Brazilian sanitary standards by the South American country.

The decision comes in the context of the entry into force four months ago of the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. Since then, European imports of Brazilian beef have increased by 36% in 2025, reaching nearly 120,000 tons.
