GLP-1-based weight loss drugs are effective even at low doses

Público2 September 2026 at 10:32

GLP-1-based weight loss drugs, such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, demonstrate efficacy even when used at low doses. This finding is relevant for the treatment of obesity and overweight, conditions that affect a significant number of people worldwide.

These medications are generally prescribed starting with a low initial dose. The goal of this approach is to allow the body to gradually adapt to the treatment, minimizing potential side effects and improving patient tolerance to the medication.

After the initial period, the dose is gradually adjusted to higher levels. This titration process allows treatment efficacy to be optimized, finding the appropriate balance between clinical outcomes and tolerability profile for each patient.
