At least 16 people died and 28 were injured in a serious bus accident in the South Sinai province, Egypt. The accident occurred this Wednesday on a road linking the cities of Dahab and Nuweiba, on the eastern coast of the Sinai Peninsula.
The region is very popular with tourists due to its beaches and diving spots. Egyptian authorities have not yet disclosed the causes of the accident, which is being investigated.
This type of accident on Egyptian roads is not rare, being frequently attributed to speeding, poor vehicle conditions or maintenance failures. Sinai's roads are known to be dangerous, especially in remote areas.
