"Sea in Sight": Tax Authority and Maritime Police Tighten Oversight of Beach Concessions

The Tax and Customs Authority, in coordination with the Maritime Police, will extend the "Mar à Vista" operation through September, a joint inspection of beach concessions in mainland Portugal. The objective is to promote voluntary compliance with tax obligations, raising awareness among operators about issuing invoices and using invoicing programs that comply with the law. Dozens of actions have already been carried out in nine districts, involving 63 inspectors and 58 officers, with infractions identified such as failure to issue invoices and use of illegal invoicing programs. A specific inspection the previous month in Odemira resulted in seven beach support facilities and tour operators being cited.
