Rangel guarantees Portugal will evaluate new sanctions against Tehran "case by case"

SIC Notícias2 September 2026 at 10:57

The Foreign Minister, Rangel, stated that Portugal will evaluate on a "case by case" basis the reinforcement of European Union sanctions against Iran. This position arises in the context of international tensions with Tehran.

Rangel expressed apprehension regarding the resumption of hostilities between Washington and Tehran, evidencing Portuguese concern about the worsening relations between the United States and Iran.

The official also warned about the risks that conflicts in the Strait of Hormuz and the Black Sea represent for African food security, highlighting the global consequences of these confrontations.

The Portuguese position arises within the scope of a broader evaluation by the European Union regarding new sanctioning measures against Iran.
