Aldir Blanc, one of the most important lyricists in MPB, turned 80 on this Wednesday. Considered a brilliant phrase-maker, he left a legacy of more than five decades of activity and more than 500 songs composed throughout his career.
The central partnership of his professional life was with composer João Bosco. The two began working together in the early 1970s and together created more than 120 songs, a number that could reach 150 if unpublished works were considered. One of their most famous songs together was "Dois pra lá, dois pra cá," eternalized in the voice of Elis Regina.
In addition to João Bosco, Aldir Blanc maintained other notable partnerships in MPB, such as with Moacyr Luz and Guinga. These collaborations helped build some of the greatest works of Brazilian popular music.
Regarding his life philosophy, Aldir Blanc defined himself with humor and irreverence: "I am rigorously atheist, skeptical, cynical and scoundrel, in that order," the composer would say.
