The PAN (People-Animals-Nature) criticized the decision of the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) to authorize the culling of deer in the Bragança region. The party considers that the measure is not the appropriate solution to the problem.
The ICNF's authorization comes in response to the damage caused in the chestnut groves of Cova de Lua, where approximately 100 chestnut trees were destroyed. The damage was attributed to the presence of deer in the area.
PAN argues that prevention measures should be implemented to protect agricultural crops from wild animals. The party believes these solutions would be more effective than culling the specimens.
In addition to preventive measures, PAN also demands that compensation be created for farmers affected by damage caused by wild fauna on their farms.
